Lights, Camera, Action!

June 15, 2008

Today has been a monumental day within the Reese family history!!  For the first time ever in his life my father got to use his webcam on his top of line iMac that he had to have.  So I know that really doesn’t seem like a big deal to most people in today’s day and age, but to my father it is a huge accomplishment!  I must admit it was actually nice to see and hear him on Father’s Day.  It is hard with my parent’s living in Tucson to really feel connected with them but today it was nice to actually see them!  I hope this made his Father’s Day!  He has been hounding me for month to get a webcam so we can video chat and I’m glad I did.  I got to talk to my whole family!  After about ten minutes of talking my Dad finally realized he didn’t have to scream at the computer for me to actually hear him and that talking normal works just as good.  But the funny thing is when my Mom came into the room she started yelling at the computer (it must be a generational thing) and he swiveled around in his new office chair and told her ever so smugly “You know you don’t have to yell for him to hear you, so stop yelling in my ear!” like he wasn’t doing the same thing five minutes earlier!  They are too funny!  I thought my Mom was going punch him in the nose!

My Dad and his $3000 email machine, as I like to think of it, is a whole story in of itself!  But he is trying! I’m guessing by the time he figures out half of things he can do with his computer we will be on to neural implants to interface with our home computers.  My Dad cracks me up because he love all these electronic gadgets but has the hardest time using them!  For example he lost iTunes, I mean it was completely gone!!  The last time Lisa and I went for a visit we searched for and it was nowhere to be found!!  I asked what he had done and all he could reply is “I don’t know, it is just gone!”

Now his new adventure is a video camera!  He was telling the last time he had anything like this was the old 8mm Supermax!  So this should be interesting.  I’m sure I will be getting a few emails about it!
